So you want to stay at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel? Are you brave enough to face the dark secrets and frightening phenomena you may encounter? Many have checked into the hotel feeling safe and sound and have left screaming. The hotel is haunted indeed by the spirits of guests from the past.
The Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel has been open since 1927 and has been the temporary home to many people over the years, including various celebrities and others who are no longer part of the living world. While the hotel is luxurious and popular, many of its suites and hallways carry forth whispers from the past—apparitions who are not ready to check out.
The first haunting was reported in 1985 by a maid who was cleaning the famous Cabana Suite 229. This was the very suite in which the late Marilyn Monroe lived for over two years. As the maid dusted around the large mirror in the room she suddenly saw in the reflection a blonde woman standing behind her. She turned to speak to the woman but no one was there. When she turned back to the mirror the woman had appeared again. Filled with terror she ran to management and reported what she had seen. It seems Marilyn had returned to her favorite suite after her death and wasn’t ready to go.
This was only the beginning. People have seen a man in a suit walking the hallway. He always takes the same path and goes out the emergency exit. He never speaks or answers when people try to talk to him. Others have reported hearing someone playing the trumpet in the halls but they are never able to find a source. Many believe this is the spirit of the late Montgomery Clift who used to practice his trumpet up and down the hallways while he lived at the hotel. In fact his room was 928 and guests who have stayed there have come in or woken up to find their belongs thrown about the room. It seems Montgomery doesn’t like sharing his room with the living.
Out of the all the rooms Cabana Suite 213 is the most haunted. Guests are rarely brave enough to stay the whole night as the TV and coffee maker seem to switch off and on by themselves. Several guests have seen a headless man in the room that seems to run at them. Terrified they run from the room screaming. Are you brave enough to stay in Cabana Suite 213? We’ll see.
